Family Visa

Canada aims to welcome almost 100,000 family class immigrants each year. About 80% of these immigrants are welcomed under the Spouses, Partners, and Children Visa, and the remaining 20% under the Parents and Grandparents Visa.

Spouse / Common-Law Partner

Sponsor

Sponsor must be an adult Canadian Citizen or Permanent Resident living in Canada, or planning to return to Canada once your spouse or partner becomes a Permanent Resident of Canada.

Sponsor's Income Level

Sponsor does not need to demonstrate a minimum amount of income to sponsor a spouse or common-law partner.

Sponsored Person

Sponsored person must be married or cohabited with the sponsor in a marriage-like relationship for at least 12 consecutive months.

Dependent Children

Sponsor

Sponsor must be an adult Canadian Citizen or Permanent Resident living in Canada, or planning to return to Canada once your sponsored children become a Permanent Resident of Canada.

Sponsor's Income Level

Sponsor does not need to demonstrate a minimum amount of income to sponsor dependent children.

Sponsored Person

Sponsored child must be <22 and single, OR >21 if they are unable to financially support themselves because of a mental or physical condition and have depended on their parents for financial support since before the age of 22.

Sponsor

Sponsor must be an adult Canadian Citizen or Permanent Resident living in Canada.

Sponsor's Income Level

Sponsor must meet the minimum necessary income (MNI) level in the past 3 years and maintain the MNI until the sponsored person becomes a Permanent Resident of Canada.

Sponsored Person

Sponsored parents & grandparents can be related by blood or adoption.

You may be eligible to apply for Super Visa, which is a multi-entry temporary visa for up to 10 years and could let the eligible parents/grandparents stay in Canada for up to 2 years at a time and apply to extend their stay by up to 1 year at a time.
